So I saw a post on Instagram earlier, and apparently, 9/4 is World Sexual Health Day.
Who knew?
‘Cause I damn sure didn’t.
(This actually reminds me of when I found out about April.)
Anywho, I actually feel bad that I don’t know these things because how will anyone take me seriously as a Sexologist in Public Health? And I don’t even know the ‘awareness’ events? I mean, I know World AIDS Day (12/1) and National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (2/7)… But clearly, there’s more where that came from.
And to think, I actually started a blog (that I’ve been too stressed out from my day job to update) and World Sexual Health Day would have been very important to highlight.
It’s all good, though.
Because if you’re reading this, you know about it now! Haha!
It goes without saying that sexual health is just as important as any other aspect of our health. Though not as taboo as it once was, sex-related topics are still glossed over, meaning, people may talk about sex, but there is no accountability.
For instance, a group of people can talk about how ‘good’ sex feels without ever discussing the consequences, especially the bad ones.
So yeah.
To continue dialogue regarding sexual health and wellness is integral to an advancing society. Statistically, we’re doing so much better at making healthy, informed decisions regarding our sex lives. Yet, sexual violence still plagues society-at-large, and we cannot discuss sexual health without acknowledging the holistic impact on those who are victimized.
My brain hurts, so I’ll unpack all of this in a later post.
At any rate, I just wanted to let you know:
September 4th is World Sexual Health Day. 🩺
